Starboard’s capabilities are wide-ranging. Below is a small cross-section of case studies highlighting the array of projects on which Starboard has provided engineering solutions. Feel free to contact us for further information regarding how we may assist you.
- Starboard engineers solved a vibration problem with a customer’s downhole sensor tool. We performed tests to assess the problem, applied finite element analysis to identify the dynamics, and then redesigned the tool. The model was used to optimize the design and a prototype was then built and tested to demonstrate the performance. The tool has been successfully deployed.
- Starboard provided technical leadership in a failure investigation, defending our customer’s design and helping to eliminate liability. The effort combined testing, analysis, countering expert reports, and a successful presentation of the findings in the face of opposing experts.
- Starboard engineers researched and developed concepts for novel crash protection equipment for military helicopter crews. This included interviews with crewmembers and simulations of system performance.
- Starboard contributed to the development of a novel downhole acoustic telemetry tool with early concept development, proof-of-concept testing, data analysis, production design and fabrication procedures, and performance models.
- Starboard developed a 12,000 foot tool string simulation to determine the operational limitations of a tool.
- Starboard developed a range of mechanism concepts for a customer application and then used FEA to simulate performance in order to refine a downselect for testing.
- Starboard developed a new design for a manufacturing process to meet customer requirements for performance and throughput.
- Starboard aided with a expedient analysis and redesign of a malfunctioning product in order to expedite getting replacement parts to the field for upcoming jobs.
- Starboard experts aided in developing and proving novel concepts and aided customer attorneys in drafting a patent application and expanding claims.
