Starboard is working
with Midé Technology and Bell Helicopter TEXTRON to develop
global vibration control treatments for rotorcraft. The R&D
program, called Self-Actuating Structures, is funded by the Army
Aviation Applied Technology Directorate and is using the AH-1Z Cobra
as a platform for evaluation. Candidate approaches have been selected
for prototype testing. Recent tests have focused on a hybrid active/passive
crew seat mount used to isolate the crew from vibrations. The system
has proven extremely successful, achieving over 90% reduction in
vibration. Starboard is continuing its involvement in a program
extension targetting unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications.
