Starboard has experience
in the integration of polymer batteries in composite laminate structures.
Working with Midé Technology, the integrated battery program
focused on the integration of Lithium Ion Polymer batteries into
composite structures as part of a distributed power scheme for spacecraft.
In order to evaluate the impact of the embedded batteries on the
host structure, mechanical tests were performed on graphite sandwich
panels. In addition, battery performance was tested during the tests.
Energy harvesting was also evaluated using piezoceramic actuators
used to convert strain energy for charging the embedded batteries.
